Also called Fiddle-back or Tiger Maple, Curly Maple is a soft or hard maple which has distinctive ribbon patterns, that create a rippled lenticular effect which appears as waves across the grain. Curly Maple is not a distinctive species, but a description of the figure present in the wood. This type of wood is widely used to make fine musical instruments and other craftsman made wood products.
